Steve Jobs Resigns as the CEO of Apple

Steve Jobs has resigned from his role as the CEO of Apple. He will now instead be the Chairman of the board at the company. Although he has not given any reason for his resignation, it is believed that serious health issues have led to his resignation. He was diagnosed with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor in 2004, had a liver transplant in 2009 and has had health troubles since then. Consumer Reports Does Not Recommends iPhone 4

Consumer Reports, the popular publication which reviews and rates consumer products has said that it would not be recommending consumers to purchase iPhone 4.   Apple has announced that it will be ending its scheme of giving a free case to consumers purchasing the iPhone 4 that resolved the antennae reception issue on September 30, 2010. Consumers had complained that touching the external antennae embedded in the steel band that encircles the case in iPhone 4 led to loss of signal and dropped calls. After this issue was highlighted by several media publications, Apple announced that it will be giving a free case to the consumers buying the iPhone 4 that mitigates the issue. Apple Ending its Free Case Scheme for iPhone 4

After the launch of iPhone 4 in June, there were immediate consumer complaints that touching the external antennae embedded in the steel band that encircles the case led to loss of signal and dropped calls. Apple hurriedly organized a press conference on July 14, where Steve Jobs did not directly acknowledge a hardware issue with the position of the antennae, but instead offered users a free $29 worth Bumper case which mitigated the issue. Twitter Use on Mobile Phones Growing by Leaps and Bounds

The number of twitter users using it on their mobile phones has seen a meteoric rise by 62% since mid-April this year. The number of new users starting on Twitter on mobile has increased to 16% compared to 5% before. The business managers at Twitter have been following a strategy to increase its use on mobile. Earlier there were a lot of third party applications for using Twitter on iPhone, but there was no application specifically from Twitter. The Twitter management decided to acquire an iPhone application called Tweetie and turned it into the official Twitter application for iPhone, with a new sign-up interface. Google has launched a revamped mobile Web site for Finance. The mobile Web site now offers the same features and functionality which are available on the desktop version of Google Finance. You can access the mobile Web site when you do a search for stock ticker or company names on your mobile device, or when you tap the “Finance” tab on the Google mobile home page. Apple is Shutting down Quattro, Will Focus on iAd Only

Apple is shutting down Quattro wireless, the mobile ad network it purchased in January this year for $275 million, to focus exclusively on its iAd platform. While the Quattro wireless mobile ad network was cross-platform and supported mobile operating systems other than those from Apple, the iAd platform will only work on the iPhone and iPad devices. Apple Supply Manager Arrested for Accepting Kickbacks

A supply manager for Apple has been arrested after being indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of wire fraud, money laundering, and accepting kickbacks from Asian suppliers of iPhone and iPod accessories. The manager, Paul Shin Devine, is accused of accepting more than $1 million in bribes for providing confidential information to the suppliers which helped them in negotiating favourable terms from Apple.
